Composing is above all for me a great spiritual adventure...which is why I often work with liturgical and generally spiritual themes.
The European Christian tradition is strongly evident in my work Missa prima, Stabat mater, Ave Maria, Magnificat, Song of Songs, Il Cantico delle Creature…).
Yet I really feel at home in broader, “universal” contexts than offered by the traditional concepts of religion and faith - in connection, for instance, with the anthroposophic teachings of Rudolf Steiner or the view and findings of Slovak sophist Emil Páleš.

a choral cycle to Psalms 108, 42, 16 and 139; not yet performed
My live performances have focussed on classical jazz – swing. I'm inspired by pretty much everything that's been performance on international and Czech (not only jazz) stages over the past sixty years. And I have several options for performing it right at hand: the vocal quartet The Swings, the accompanying DayDream Band and recently with increasing frequency the chamber project Tranquillo. I also often appear as a guest with Vit Fiala’s X-tet, Czech Radio Big Band and Bohemia Big Band.

My accompanying formation – a professional and established swing group focussed on pleasant mainstream jazz. The band's name comes from the eponymous CD, DayDream (BS 2004) and its intentions are clear – to entertain the broadest swing-loving publics with well-known evergreens of its genre. The makeup of the DayDream Band varies (generally a trio, quartet or quintet) and consists of pianist Jakub Zomer or Jiří Růžička, guitarist Viktor Jerman, Adam Tvrdý or Jaroslav Friedl, contra-bassists Vít Fiala, Jen Tengler or Tomáš Liška, saxophonist Svatobor Macák, Jan Štolba or David Vrobel and Jan Linhart often plays the drums. The DayDream Band is often accompanied by or accompanies Lee Andrew Davison, Dáša Zázvůrková or Tereza Rajnincová (www.blueseason.cz) (www.blueseason.cz) |

This is my chamber concert project presenting jazz and other songs in a relaxed atmosphere. The core of this project is my collaboration with the excellent guitarist Viktor Jerman and the talented Czech singer Tereza Rajnincová. Bassist Vítek Fiala, pianist Jakub Zomer and saxophonist Jan Štolba have all been special guests of the "TRANQUILLO” concerts. TRANQUILLO is for pleasure… TRANQUILLO je pro radost… |

For nearly twelve years we've devoted ourselves to interpreting multi-vocal classical jazz, since 2002 with the same members. It’s all accompanied by an up-to-five member band or, in the chamber version, only by guitar. For more information go to The Swings website(www.swings.cz) |
